Many residents love the SE16 area as it offers peaceful living only a stone's throw away from the city centre. There are some beautiful properties around Surrey Quays and Canada Water that offer picturesque views across the water.
Where to Eat
Leadbelly’s is a cool and casual local’s pub in the heart of Canada Water. This is a laid-back venue which ticks a range of boxes. They won gold at the ‘Free From Eating Out Awards’ thanks to their inclusive menu which is up to 98% gluten free.
The Pear Tree @ Greenland Place is another must-see, it is a neighbourhood restaurant with a deli serving high quality food to the visitors of Surrey Quays. This is an Australian inspired ‘cafe culture’ eatery that brings together great food and artisan drinks. They also offer a deli which is stocked with a variety of treats that are baked in house.
The Mayflower Pub in Rotherhithe has become a firm favourite amongst local residents with its riverside deck offering some lovely views across the River Thames and an incredibly popular Sunday roast!
What to Visit
There is an abundance of green space to enjoy in the SE16 area; Stave Hill is one such space. Stave Hill Ecological Park is managed by TCV’s Urban Ecology team, it is a nature reserve, educational facility, research area and a place of recreation. The Park has a range of grassland, woodland, scrub and wetland habitats, which support a range of wildlife.
If you have little ones, or you just love animals, SE16 is home to Surrey Docks Farm, where you can visit pigs, sheep, goats and other farm creatures for a small donation. This is a working farm that enables visitors to learn about farming, food production and the natural environment.
Southwark Park is home to Southwark Athletics Centre and also has free tennis courts, so has become rather popular with sports enthusiasts. The large park is also home to Southwark parkrun, held every Saturday morning.
How to Get Around
There are a number of underground stations in the SE16 area. Bermondsey offers the Jubilee service, Rotherhithe offers London Overground services and South Bermondsey station offers Southern services. The border of SE16 runs along the River Thames so you also have the option of getting around on foot whilst enjoying views across the water. If you ever get tired, there are many docks for the Thames Clipper so you can jump aboard and continue your journey!
