An Introduction to Elephant & Castle

Elephant and Castle, in South East London, has been an important travel junction since Roman times. Old Kent Road and Newington Causeway, two of the main roads that converge at Elephant and Castle, roughly follow the path of two Roman routes that led to Londinium, the capital of Roman Britain.

However, it was between 1890 - 1940 that the area really came to life, earning its nickname, the ‘Piccadilly of the South’. Now, it is still a busy road junction, but it is also an area of entertainment, education and ever evolving eateries. The area is due to be transformed into a new town of modern tower blocks, our estate agents advise you to get ahead of the curve, and add Elephant to your list of potentials.

Travel Links in Elephant & Castle

Elephant and Castle tube station serves the area, which runs Northern and Bakerloo line trains. These travel to destinations such as London Bridge, Morden, Clapham and King’s Cross. Elephant and Castle railway station is also served by Southeastern and Thameslink trains. There are also a huge number of local buses, and Cycleway 6 and Cycle Superhighway 7 pass through the area.

Local Knowledge

Our estate agents love Elephant and Castle for its combination of cracking night clubs and cute cafes. The area is home to Ministry of Sound and Corsica studios, big names on the London dance scene.
If you’re not interested in the clubbing scene, Elephant and Castle offers a lot more in the way of eating and entertainment. Louie Louie is a great place for brunch, they also offer events and music in the evening. Nearby Burgess Park is a great space to stretch your legs. This park offers a BMX track, tennis courts, a fishing lake, a dedicated BBQ area in summer, and a weekly 5k Park Run on Saturday mornings.
