About Southwark
Southwark is a borough of Central London, situated on the south bank of the River Thames. The district is the oldest part of South London, its development as a populated area was due to its proximity to the early version of London Bridge, which was the only river crossing point for many miles.
Southwark is home to several infamous London attractions such as The Shard, Tate Modern, Borough Market and Shakespeare’s Globe, all of which draw domestic and international tourism all year round.
Travel Links in Southwark
Southwark is a large area of South London, and so you are spoilt for choice when it comes to transport. If you like to travel by foot, the area includes several of London’s bridges, Blackfriars, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and the Millennium Bridge are all within the district.
By train the Bakerloo, Jubilee and Northern Underground lines all run through the borough, calling at stations such as Bermondsey, Elephant and Castle, Kennington, Southwark, and Canada Water. There are also London Overground stations within the borough, Surrey Quays, Rotherhithe and Denmark Hill, amongst others.
